Welcome to Liberty Drones’ step-by-step guide to starting your very own drone washing company.

If you’re here, you’re likely an entrepreneur seeking to break into a cutting edge industry.

In this guide, we’ll provide you with a step-by-step overview, preparing you with all the tools and knowledge necessary to get your business off the ground- literally.

Part 1

Licensing & Training

Obtaining Your Part 107 License

First and foremost, to fly drones commercially in the United States, you need a Part 107 license from the FAA. This certification ensures you understand the rules and regulations surrounding the commercial use of drones, including airspace classifications, flight restrictions, and safety protocols.

Step 1: Study for the Part 107 exam using FAA resources or online courses.

I suggest choosing The Pilot Institute because they provide a 100% money-back guarantee if you don't pass on your first attempt. Additionally, they are the most trusted Part 107 training provider globally. You can view their course here: https://learn.pilotinstitute.com/a/aff_5x275ft0/external?affcode=245841_r1brl_on or by clicking the button below:

Step 2: Register for the Part 107 test at an FAA-approved testing center.

Obtain an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) by creating an Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) profile prior to registering for a knowledge test. You can do that here: https://iacra.faa.gov/IACRA/Default.aspx

Schedule an appointment with a FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center. Be sure to bring a government-issued photo ID to your test. This can be done here: https://faa.psiexams.com/faa/login

Step 3: Pass the test and complete the necessary paperwork to receive your license.

Step 4: Complete FAA Form 8710-13 for a remote pilot certificate

FAA Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application) using the electronic FAA Integrated Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application system (IACRA)*: This can be done here: https://iacra.faa.gov/IACRA/Default.aspx

Step 5: A confirmation email will be sent when an applicant has completed the TSA security background check.

This email will provide instructions for printing a copy of the temporary remote pilot certificate from IACRA.

Step 6: A permanent remote pilot certificate will be sent via mail once all other FAA-internal processing is complete.

Step 7: Have your Remote Pilot Certificate available whenever you fly your UAS.

Importance of Proper Drone Training

Operating a drone for washing services is more complex than flying a recreational drone. The added weight of the hose and water, along with the stabilizing required due to water pressure, makes proper training essential.

Payload Management: Learn to handle the variable weight as the hose sways and gains weight the higher the drone flies.

Stabilization Techniques: Master the controls to counteract back force from water pressure, sudden gusts, or extenuating circumstances.

Safety Protocols: Understand the best safety practices to protect yourself, your equipment, and your clients’ property.

At Liberty Drones, we offer hands-on instruction and one-on-one coaching, both online and in person, to ensure you're fully prepared.

Equipment Essentials

Ground Units

Successful drone washing operations require specific ground units to function effectively. Here's what you need:

  • Buffer Tanks
  • Hose Reels & Hoses
  • Trailers or Skids
  • Pressure Washers
  • Soft Wash System
  • Deionized Water Unit

100-200 gallon Tanks

250 feet of soft wash and pressure hose

Transport your systems using your truck

We recommend an 8.0 GPM+. with a heated option being even better!

Gas powered 8GPM and under 350psi

Removes minerals from on site water for a streak free shine

Our Recommendations

At Liberty Drones, we can recommend various brands based on your specific needs:
For window cleaning, deionized water and a gas pumping system are effective.
Pressure washing with approximately 1000 PSI using deionized water allows you to spray from a distance.
A gas soft wash unit is ideal for delicate surfaces.

Choosing the Right Drone

Selecting the right drone is crucial for your business. Many manufacturers have biased sales materials, making it tough to choose wisely.

Factors to Consider:

  • Payload Capacity: Ensure the drone can handle the weight of water and hoses.
  • Service Plans & Warranties
  • Available Financing
  • Stability: Look for drones with advanced stabilization features.
  • Durability: Choose drones built to withstand regular exposure to water and chemicals.

At Liberty Drones, we've extensively researched and tested various brands globally. For detailed guidance, visit our site: How to Buy a Pressure Washing Drone.
